Kluivert positive about Alena transfer

Patrick Kluivert says that Carles Alena’s signing to Real Betis for the remainder of the period on advance could be uplifting news for Riqui Puig.

The 20-year-old has not shown up for Barca this season yet has said he is happy to be patient and sit tight for his opportunity at the Camp Nou.

Kluivert figures Alena’s leave implies Puig could be elevated to the first football team. However, it’s everything up to Ernesto Valverde to decide.

“I think so, it depends on Valverde. If there is a space, I think Riqui has to be the first to go up. I have told Riqui,” he said.

“Everyone wants to play in the first team and then look at their interests. To grow it is not bad to go on loan to a good team to continue growing as a player and person.”’

Barcelona have had tough luck recently with players they have signed in midfield. They have gone up and signed players like Arturo Vidal who have in no way ever shown any capability to play the Barcelona way.

However they will be hoping that the new class of players like Puig can prove their worth for the Catalans.
