In the January window, he was sent out on loan to Premier League Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.

He reunited with his former teammate at Liverpool and current Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard.

The Brazil international went on explaining how he never regretted joining Barcelona.

Coutinho told ESPN: ‘At certain times we have to make decisions and one of my big dreams was to play for Barcelona.

Barcelona are slowly progressing to their best form.

The Blaugrana thumped Napoli 4-2 on Thursday to progress to the round-of-16 of the Europa League.

Thye will be facing Galatasaray on 10th March at Camp Nou for their first-leg tie.

With the arrival of Xavi, the squad has taken an upturn in form and has entered the top-four with their recent performances.

Pique who was one of the scorers in Napoli win believes the club is slowly getting back to their best.

“The team hadn’t competed for a while at the level that a club like Barça is supposed to,” Pique said. “We’ve gone back to our origins, to what we should always have played for and perhaps stopped doing for a while.

“It’s a message for ourselves and for people from outside. Little by little, we are coming back.

“I don’t think it’s fair to target anyone. We had a tendency that was everyone’s fault. The club made decisions in all areas that were not the right ones, but we have to turn the page. We are in a good moment. We have to continue in this dynamic. We haven’t won anything but it’s true that, where we come from, these victories help a lot.

“The change in the bench…there have been many changes. It is reflected in the team. This is a continuous improvement. Sometimes we would have liked to win games like Pamplona, Granada, Cornellà…the line is ascending. This trend is going to end up in a good position. We’ll see.”

Barcelona will face Napoli on Thursday night.

The 1st leg at Camp Nou ended 1-1 between both teams and with the removal of away goals rule, Napoli needs to secure a win to move to the next round of the competition.

Coach Xavi explains how his team will approach the second-leg tie of this Europa League clash.

The manager said: “We will face it as if we had won 2-1 or 3-1. Napoli will do a lot of pressing, we will have to dominate the game, impose our game with possession of the ball.

“Napoli will have the stadium on their side, an important fan base, we have to follow with our system, with our style. We’re ready.”

He further added: “They will press high, we want to play in their half of the pitch. They will be a physical team, there will be confrontations for the ball. Napoli are at the level of the Champions League, in fact they are fighting for the Scudetto, so we will have to keep the ball.”

On Ousmane Dembele, he said: “I can see that he’s happy and acting like a professional. I’ve heard all sorts of things, but I can say that he\s trained hard even when he wasn’t called up.

“If he wasn’t a professional I wouldn’t play him, instead he gives something positive to the squad and will give a lot from now until the end of the season.”

Barcelona are paying very close attention to players who’ll become free agents at the end of this season

One of those is Juventus‘ Paulo Dybala, who doesn’t look like renewing his contract in Turin.

The Argentine is said to be interested in joining Barcelona and playing in La Liga. Despite the fact that the Premier League and Serie A are both interested in his services. He thinks he has completed his cycle at Juventus and is eager to continue his development as a footballer and take on a new challenge.

In addition to Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan are both interested in Dybala. The 28-year-old, has 112 goals and 48 assists in 281 games for Juventus. He has also managed to score two goals in 32 appearances for Argentina’s national squad.

The Catalans had previously been connected with Dybala. Three years ago, the Argentine was said to be on his way to Barcelona, but the discussions fell through due to a similar profile to Lionel Messi.

Juventus offer him a reduced pay and a contract with a large number of variables. Needless to say, the Italians’ offer does not persuade his entourage because he has better alternatives.

Despite the fact that the player is open to a move to Barcelona, the Catalans’ priority is no longer the forward line. The additions of Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Adama Traore have provided them with the needed depth.

With positions like centre-back and full-back in high demand, a transfer for Dybala is improbable.

Reports claim that Roma and Monaco are targeting Barcelona fullback Sergino Dest

Dest has fully recovered from the injuries that have kept him out this season and has been playing a major role under Xavi in recent weeks, especially because Dani Alves has been suspended in LaLiga and is not registered for the Europa League.

The USMNT defender performed admirably against Valencia over the weekend, garnering Xavi’s plaudits and demonstrating that he can be helpful after failing to get a transfer away from Camp Nou in January.

There were plenty reasons to be pleased following Barcelona’s weekend victory against Valencia. The attack was excellent, and the squad avoided giving up easy goals.

Sergino Dest had one of the weekend’s greatest performances. After the game, the American talked about how much faith his employer now has in him.

He’s only 21 years old, but he’s a player with a bright future ahead of him, and other teams are taking notice, knowing that he’s not untouchable for Xavi.

That’s exactly what happened with Roma. According to rumours in Italy, Jose Mourinho’s club is interested in signing the former Ajax right-back this summer. Tiago Pinto, the club’s Portuguese director general, is pushing for the move, and the club is aware of interest from Monaco as well.

Barcelona plays Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Catalan giants would be welcoming Napoli today evening for the knockout round of the Europa League.

On the other hand, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be available to play against the Serie A giants on Thursday evening.

“They’re a compact, experienced team,” Xavi Hernandez said of Napoli as carried by Diario AS. “A team used to dominating the ball. But they also defend well with a low block. [Piotr] Zielinski is a surprise, like [Elif] Elmas. [Andre-Frank Zambo] Anguissa, Fabian [Ruiz], [Victor] Osimhen, [Lorenzo] Insigne.

“This is a Champions League team. We’ve not been lucky with the draw. Analysing them, you can see a lot of potential. The loss of [Stanislav] Lobotka is important to them but they have offensive full-backs in Mario Rui and [Giovanni] di Lorenzo. They’re a major rival and that’s why they’re competing for the Scudetto.”
