Is Aubameyang the Man To Fire Barcelona to Glory?

Aubameyang – the man to fire Barcelona to glory? FC Barcelona has a long history of star strikers and elite forwards playing for the Catalan club. The likes of Thierry Henry, Romario, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Patrick Kluivert, Luis Suarez, and, of course, Lionel Messi have all fired in goals for Barcelona over the years. Now the responsibility of finding the back of the net is on the shoulders of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Is he the man for the job?

Barcelona is going through a transitional period. Last season was the first time wince 2007-08 when Barcelona did not either win La Liga or finish as runners-up. The current season has been blighted by off-the-field issues, particularly financial problems, and allowing Messi’s contract to expire. Losing a player of Messi’s quality would hurt any team in the world, but Barcelona is struggling without the talismanic Argentinian. They reside fourth in La Liga, some 15 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid, and some online sports betting sites do not think Barcelona will finish in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Aubameyang’s Incredible Goal Scoring Talent

This is where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comes in. The 32-year-old Gabon international joined Barcelona on a free transfer from English Premier League outfit Arsenal during the January 2022 transfer window. The transfer could be one of the bargains of the century because Aubameyang cost Arsenal £56 million in 2018 and scores goals for fun.

Aubameyang began his professional career with AC Milan in 2008, but he never made a first-team appearance. Instead, Milan sent the lightning-quick striker on loan to a series of French clubs, first Dijon, then Lille, Monaco, then Saint-Etienne, the latter signing him on a permanent deal.

He was an instant hit with the Saint-Etienne fans, finishing as Ligue 1’s fourth top scorer with 16 goals during his debut season. Aubameyang scored 19 goals during the following campaign to be the league’s second-leading scorer, trailing only the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Aubameyang’s performances and natural goal-scoring ability attracted interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. He signed for the German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund. It is here that Aubameyang made a name for himself. The Gabonese star scored 98 league goals in 144 games and 141 goals in 213 games across all competitions between 2013 and the middle of the 2017-18 season before moving to Premier League team Arsenal for a then club-record fee of £56 million.

Arsenal fans instantly took to Aubameyang thanks to him scoring ten Premier League goals in his first 13 appearances. He scored 22 league goals in each of his next two seasons, another ten in 2020-21, but 2021-22 is when everything started going wrong.

Aubameyang’s Disciplinary Issues

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta had several run-ins with Aubameyang over his discipline. Arteta omitted Aubameyang from the matchday squad for “disciplinary reasons” before Arsenal took on North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The British media speculated Aubameyang was continually late for training. Arteta dropped his star striker before facing Southampton on December 11, 2021, before stripping him of the club captaincy three days later. Aubameyang never played for Arsenal again.

Barcelona initially wanted to sign Aubameyang on loan until the end of the season. However, Arsenal wanted him off their wage bill because his £350,000 per week contract still had 18-months to run, and Arteta had no intentions of selecting him. Arsenal not only agreed to let Aubameyang leave on a free transfer, but they also agreed to pay him £7 million to end his contract early, allowing Aubameyang to take a wage cut to become a Barcelona player.

Is Aubameyang Barcelona’s Saviour?

There is no doubting Aubameyang’s obvious talent but whether he is the man to come to Barcelona’s rescue and help them climb La Liga is open to debate. He is 32-years-old now and will be 36 when his contract expires. In addition, his attitude and discipline have been frequently questioned over the past couple of years, suggesting he no longer has the hunger to be one of the world’s best strikers

That said, securing a player of Aubameyang’s ability on a free transfer is a masterful stroke of business. Plus, having the likes of Memphis Depay, Ferran Torres, and Ansu Fati learning from him in training is priceless. He may not bang in 20+ goals a season for Barcelona, but he has the potential to help turn some of the squad’s players into legitimate superstars.

Barcelona fullback Daniel Alves has been hit by a two-match suspension

According to reports, Alves will miss this Sunday’s Catalan derby against Espanyol, as well as the following week’s game against Valencia, after receiving a two-game suspension after his sending off against Atletico Madrid.

Alves also scored the first goal since returning to the club in the 4-2 win

After the referee reviewed VAR evidence, the Brazilian received a straight red card for a vicious late tackle on Yannick Carrasco in the Blaugrana’s victory against Atleti. Alves’ usage of his studs, as well as his lack of desire to play the ball, were aggravating elements that worked against him.

This means that Alves will not be able to play again until at least February 27 against Villarreal, since he has not been registered to play in the Europa League and so cannot face Napoli next week or the week after, leaving Barcelona without him for the next four games.

Oscar Hernandez, Xavi’s brother and second in command, was also punished by the Spanish Football Federation Committee, who handed him a two-game suspension for his frequent objections against Jesus Gil Manzano’s officiating judgments.

Barcelona have confirmed they will appeal the two-match game handed to Dani Alves on Wednesday.

Xavi Hernandez has Gavi high on his list of priorities in the second half of the season as Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly monitoring to swoop in the starlet

Gavi has risen through the ranks of La Blaugrana this season, after making his first team debut in August and earning his first Spain cap in October, becoming the youngest player to represent La Roja at senior level.

With his present contract at the Camp Nou ending in 2023, his meteoric ascent has compelled the club’s leadership to move on a big contract renewal and compensation boost.

Xavi is desperate to retain the 17-year-old on board as a key member of his exciting new club, but the Andalucian-born schemer is said to be contemplating his options.

The report states Barcelona are currently set to make a €1.5-2m annual salary offer to Gavi but Liverpool can offer €4m, plus a €10m signing on bonus at Anfield.

Barcelona has agreed to a multi-million dollar sponsorship arrangement with Spotify.

For €280 million, the Blaugrana sold their jersey sponsorship rights and Camp Nou name rights to music streaming giants Spotify.

The contract will last three years and will provide a significant financial boost to Barcelona. It is anticipated to contribute to an increase in Barca’s pay allotment for next year.

Gavi is high on Xavi Hernandez’s priority list for the second half of the season.

Gavi’s contract expires in 2023, and Barcelona has been in contract discussions with the teenager.

He is said to have rejected a first offer, but discussions are still ongoing, and Gavi, along with Araujo, is a priority, according to Sport.

De Ligt met Pique on a holiday to the Caribbean and spoke about it.

Barcelona star Gerard Pique wants Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt to avoid Barca move. The duo had a conversation regarding this and it has been revealed.

De Ligt met Barcelona center-back on a holiday to the Caribbean and they spoke about his possible arrival. Barca man told him not to come because he would not get minutes in Xavi’s lineup.

Adama Traore shines on Barcelona return

Barcelona boss Xavi was full of praise for Adama Traore as the Spanish star made his return to the Camp Nou

The Catalan giants needed a win to move above Los Colchoneros and into the top four of the league rankings.

It goes without saying that Barça achieved just that with a 4-2 home triumph against the reigning champions, breaking a five-match losing streak in La Liga versus Atleti in style.

What a way to make a debut for Adama Traore! Given the recent off-field squabbles with Ousmane Dembele, the Spaniard brought with him everything that Barcelona craved.

While he is frequently criticised for possessing nothing but pace and crossing, when the two are combined, few opponents can stop him. On his debut, he grabbed an assist, and that too against a competitor like Atletico de Madrid. His impact led Diego Simeone to rethink his tactical setup, which should demonstrate how amazing he was.

Traore notoriously made just one La Liga game after rising through the ranks of La Masia in 2013, but his January comeback has been touted as the start of a new era for the 26-year-old Catalan native.

“Physically he is an animal, a beast. He is a pure winger and he will help us. He is a great signing for the team. Adama makes the difference. He has power, strength, he dribbles at opponents and he’s solid in defence.”

Xavi also reserved praise for Aubameyang as he was thrown into the action with a 30 minute cameo in front of the Camp Nou crowd.

Ousmane Dembele will stay until the end of the season.

The Frenchman has been ignoring contract renewals from Barcelona in the past few months.

He could end up leaving Camp Nou for free when he’s out of contract in the summer.

Dembele was allowed to sign a pre-agreement with an interested party in January but the winger refused to make any agreements.

Barcelona wanted to get some fee for his services but the 24-year old winger decided to not leave Camp Nou in the January window.

Club president Joan Laporta has let Xavi decide whether the former Borussia Dortmund winger will play a role for the Catalan giants in the remainder of the season.

Xavi said in his latest press conference: “The circumstances have meant we have not found a solution.

“Now he is part of the club, of the squad and he has a contract.

“We have met with all parties and we have decided that he is a part.

“He can help and has been a great professional. It’s a decision of the club.

“We will use him when I think it is convenient. He is one of the team.”

Xavi Simons has progressed through the youth ranks at the Parc des Princes.

Lionel Messi has reportedly warned Barcelona against signing PSG prospect Xavi Simons.

The young gun has progressed through the youth ranks at the Parc des Princes. The 18-year-old is beginning to make fleeting appearances for the first team this season.

His contract with PSG will expire in six months. There are some speculation that Simons is planning for a return to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, El Nacional suggests that Messi has advised Barcelona manager Xavi against a move due to concerns over the Dutchman’s slow development.

The report also adds that the former Barcelona legend had the conversation with Xavi at a birthday dinner after Mino Raiola informed Barcelona of Simons’s stance, and PSG are still open to offloading the 18-year-old this year.

The Dutchman has scored three goals and six assists in six UEFA Youth League appearances this season.

Barcelona confirm Clement Lenglet muscle injury ahead of crucial fixture

Barcelona confirm Clement Lenglet muscle injury ahead of crucial fixture

Barcelona have announced that Clement Lenglet has suffered a muscle injury in the biceps femoris of his left thigh

The French center-back had medical tests on Thursday, which verified his injury, although Barcelona did not say how long he would be out. They stated that it would be contingent on his recuperation.

“Test conducted on Clement Lenglet on the morning of Thursday 3 February has revealed an injury to the femoral biceps in his left hamstring,” Barca’s statement reads.

So far this season, Lenglet has played 790 minutes distributed between 16 games in La Liga and the Champions League. For minutes, he’s been pitted against Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and Samuel Umtiti.

Barcelona has endured a slew of injuries this season and will need all the aid they can get as the season winds down.

They presently sit in fifth position in La Liga, one point behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid. They will also play Napoli in the following round of the Europa League later this month and also not to mention their clash with Atletico Madrid this Sunday.

Despite a few disappointing performances, the Frenchman was a frequent starter under Ronald Koeman last season. The addition of Xavi Hernandez, though, has transformed the scenario for the 26-year-old.

He has fallen behind Ronald Araujo and Gerard Pique, Xavi’s first-choice central backline, in the pecking order. Samuel Umtiti, Lenglet’s countryman, is also sidelined with an injury.

Araujo is presently serving with Uruguay on international service. He will, however, most likely play in Barcelona’s vital encounter against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Eric Garcia, who has recently returned to training after recovering from an injury, is another defensive option for the Catalans.
