Koeman Impressed With Griezmann’s Performance

Koeman Impressed With Griezmann's Performance
Bildbyran

Koeman is rather pleased with Antoine Griezmann.

The Barcelona forward got back on the scoresheet as he scored an opener against Ferencvaros. Koeman now has the dilemma of wondering who to pick for the next line up against Cadiz on Saturday.

“It is always a matter of trust of a player. As I said many times, Antoine has always worked hard to improve his game and effectiveness for the team,” he said.

“Now the goals come in and he is convinced because he has quality. I think this is important for any player.

“I hope he can continue with this effectiveness he’s having lately.”

“I’ve seen him doing very well, he played from his position with freedom,” Koeman had further declared in an interview post the Osasuna clash.

“He has provided an assist and scored a great goal, this is the player we want.

“One who fights and works and is effective, he hasn’t changed and his work has always been excellent, but it may be that because of better movement he has found more space.”

Koeman even hailed Ousmane Dembele, who successfully scored a goal at the 28th minute during the Ferencvaros clash.

“Dembele is a great player. He has a lot of quality, one on one, he is very fast, he is effective and manages both legs,” he said.

“The most important thing is he is physically very well. He is working well.

“We know there are different players at the front and it is difficult for the manager to decide when people like Dembele are playing at this level.”

Neymar – I Want To Play With Messi

Neymar - I Want To Play With Messi

Neymar has openly called out for a reunion with Lionel Messi.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester United 3-1 on Wednesday and Neymar stated this right after.

“I want to play with Messi again,” he said. “It’s what I want the most. I want to enjoy being on the pitch with him again. For sure, next year we have to do it.”

Now, whether that means a reunion at Barcelona or at PSG, remains to be seen. Neymar is still contracted to PSG until June 2022 while Messi’s contract expires at Barca at the end of this season.

There has been a public feud between the club and player for both cases. Neymar tried to force a move out of PSG ahead of the 2019/20 season and so did Messi last summer. Both were denied, leaving their futures with the respective clubs in total uncertainty.

Neymar has never ruled out a return to Barcelona. After failing to win the Champions League in three seasons, he might look to find a way back into a more competitive environment. But signing him could once again raise a significant transfer fee and Barca are not in the best position to fork that out.

Messi joining PSG for free is a much more plausible idea. But reports indicate Manchester City are the favourites to sign him due to the presence of Pep Guardiola.

Koeman reserves special praise for in-form Griezmann

Barcelona beat Ferencvaros 3-0 in their fifth Champions League match of the 2020-21 season.

The La Liga side has struggled in the domestic circuit but are looking exceptionally good.

They have won all five of their matches in Europe now, this one without Messi in the squad again.

Head coach Ronald Koeman reserved special praise for Antoine Griezmann who has now scored 5 goals in the last 6 games.

Koeman said at the final whistle: “In the Champions League we are doing well. Five out of five and quite a few goals. Let’s see if we can continue like this in the tournament.

“It is good that they score. We have had a great first half and, in that sense, there is competition in attack. Hopefully everyone is like Griezmann, Braithwaite and Dembélé.

“There is good competition They are raising the level in attack. There were games in which we have not had this effectiveness because that gives the points.”

It was also put to Koeman that Griezmann is a changed man since his interview with former Real Madrid chief Jorge Valdano.

The coach replied: “Well, let Valdano come every week then!”

Setien still on Barcelona payroll!

Setien still on Barcelona payroll!
Bildbyran

Former Barcelona boss Quique Setien has said that he is yet to be relieved by the club!

The club hired Setien on the back of sacking Ernesto Valverde. What seemed to be a well thought move to carry forward the Barcelona legacy of football, turned out to be a disaster.

Setien did not carry any experience of managing big teams and lost the dressing room. His term culminated with Barcelona losing the La Liga despite being in the lead when he took over and also with a 8-2 hammering in the hands of the imperial Bayern Munich.

However, what has transpired is even worse now with Setien openly admitting that the club are yet to officially relieve him from his duties, or offer him his compensation despite appointing a new coach in charge!

“Barca have not compensated me, nor have they offered me anything,” Setien told COPE’s El Partidazo show. “They have not even called me to tell me that I am dismissed.

“It’s evident that the club is going through a worrying moment, something that when you arrive is clearly perceived and which directly affects sports performance.

“You always believe that from within you may be able to help solve it, but for us, despite putting everything on our side, it has been impossible.”

Mismanagement yet again from the Bartomeu administration!

Lionel Messi is left out of the Champions League squad for a second successive week.

The Argentine superstar is being rested for Barcelona’s Champions League trip to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

The Blaugrana have already made it to the last 16 of the competition and Koeman believes it’s important to have Messi feeling fresh for Saturday’s trip to Cadiz.

A post shared by FC Barcelona (@fcbarcelona)

“It’s not usual for Messi to rest, I know this, but I have spoken to him about it even if the decision is mine,” Koeman said in a press conference.

“Given the way the calendar is this season, there have been two moments when I could rest him, in Kiev and tomorrow.

“We are already qualified and this way I am able to give opportunities to others. We need to win Saturday’s match in LaLiga, so this is the right time for him to rest. After tomorrow there won’t be any other chances to do that.”

Barcelona beat Ferencvaros 5-1 in the reverse fixture of the Champions League.

Laporta announces plans to keep Messi at Nou Camp

Laporta announces plans to keep Messi at Nou Camp
Bildbyran

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has hatched a plan to keep Lionel Messi at Nou Camp.

“I announce my candidacy and I’m doing it because I love Barcelona, its people, its fans and La Masia,” Laporta declared. “I love this club and I want to serve Barcelona again.

“We have the necessary preparation, experience and determination to make the required change and to bring Barcelona back to the top of world football.

“There are millions of fans around the world who want another successful period. We have to recover the pride of Barcelona. I want to push the club to achieve this glory.

“I will work tirelessly so that Barcelona are an engine of optimism, to recover the motivation of our players and to dominate in the Champions League, which is our priority each season.

“Barcelona and the Champions League is a success story that has sadly been broken.

“We will make decisions that bring us back to the top. Presiding over Barcelona was a great honour and they were the best years of my life, so doing it again is the biggest challenge I’ve had.

“If I have the members’ support, I’m sure we’ll do even better.”

Inter Milan offered €250m for Lionel Messi

Inter Milan offered €250m for Lionel Messi
Bildbyran

Former Barca president reveals Inter Milan offered €250m for Lionel Messi back in 2006.

Joan Laporta who served as the Barca president from 2003 to 2010 said that he could be able to convince Messi to stay at Camp Nou because of their special relationship.

Laporta also revealed that Inter Milan apparently offered €250m to sign the Argentina international back in 2006.

“Messi wanted to leave because he was very disappointed with how [the previous board] treated him,” Laporta said in a news conference on Monday.

“If there had been elections earlier, maybe we would not be in this situation.

“But Messi loves Barca and I know that he will give us the chance to have a conversation to help him decide the best for him and for Barca — although we’ve not spoken yet.

“I know he has offers from other clubs, but he always has. [Former Inter owner Massimo] Moratti wanted to pay €250m for him in 2006 and I said no.

“Messi and his family are happy here, in Catalonia, they like the life they have in Barcelona, in Castelldefels. It’s not a question of money, we just have to be up to scratch as a club.

“The best thing for him is to wait and see who wins the elections and what they propose. I think Messi, with a good proposal, would choose Barca.

“He knows me, he knows us, how we work, how we treat the players. If there’s one thing I am proud of, it’s always keeping my word, which he knows from working together before.”
