Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw with Eibar.

The Catalans were held to a 1-1 draw despite creating many chances. Koeman has now admitted that their title chances are slipping away after dropping so many points in the early stages of the league.

“I’m realistic, winning the title is complicated,” Koeman said after the game.

“Nothing is impossible, but we have to recognise the distance.

“Atletico look very good to me. They’re very strong and they don’t concede many goals.”

With Messi and Gerard Pique not playing, the Catalans had to put out an young side, who missed chances galore and lacked a decisive edge.

“I don’t want to say that we lacked experienced players,” Koeman said.

“There’s a transition in the team and we have injuries too.

“We’re playing young players, but today we had five or six young players and players with experience too.

“We missed Leo, who makes a difference, but the feeling now is that we should have won.

“We had chances, missed a penalty and gave away the goal, which was their only shot on target.”

Barcelona will be eagerly waiting for the return of Lionel Messi for the next match.

A Lionel Messi bereft Barcelona drew 1-1 with Eibar.

The Catalonian club seemed to be lacking a cutting edge as they missed chances galore all match to end 1-1. Eibar coach Mendilbar was an ecstatic man and praised his team’s grunt work and determination to leave the stadium with a point earned.

“Finally, we’ve earned a point here, a point that feels like a victory,” the Eibar coach said.

“It went very quickly, it was half time before I knew it.

“I think we had some luck, with the missed penalty, and we took the one chance we had, but the players ran a lot and they’re very tired.

“They were missing the best player in the world and they did miss Messi.

“Every time we have come here, he has scored a couple of goals. Today we didn’t have this opponent.

“We know they’re all very good, the best, but luck wasn’t on their side today.

“Going ahead gave us life and we leave with a good feeling. That’s good for our mindset.”

Barcelona are in a bad run of form blowing hot and cold. They need to pick up their slacking form soon if they want to challenge for the title.

Setien open to Barcelona return

Quique Setien has expressed his desire to coach once again at FC Barcelona.

The former Barca head coach was hired last year to replace Ernesto Valverde as their manager.

While it is fair to note that he took over one of the most disjointed Barcelona teams, one can hardly forget that he oversaw the drop of Barcelona from the top of the table to finishing far behind Real Madrid in the league, an unceremonius exit from Copa Del Rey and a hammering by 8 goals to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, Setien seems to have little memory of what has happened as expressed his interest in taking over Barcelona again, a club who sacked him without any official notice.

“The experience was extraordinary,” Setien said, via Marca.

“It is true that we did not enjoy what we would have liked and with that illusion I went from the beginning.

“Of course I would return to Barcelona and I would never regret having gone, not at all.”

“I have already overcome the mourning that I had to go through for what happened in Barcelona,” Setien said.

“But this is an accident, one more that you take as part of your job.”

Leo Messi has talked about the current situation at Barcelona.

Messi was on the brink of leaving the club in the summer but ended up staying at Barcelona. The player has now talked about the current situation at the club.

“It was a manner of making a point and expressing my feelings,” Messi told the Daily Mail.

“It was me telling the club that I wanted to leave I felt I’d completed a cycle and it was time to leave the club that had given me so much.

“I wanted to win titles and battle for the Champions League and felt it was time for change. The president then started to filter this and that to paint a negative picture of me.”

“It was far from easy for me to say I wanted to leave the club and the city. The family wanted to stay here, this is their home but I genuinely felt it was time to go.”

“Nothing will be crystal clear before the end of the year. I’ll wait until the season is over,” he said, per Sky Sports.

“What matters now is thinking about the team, finishing the year well and not being distracted by other things.

“I don’t know what will happen. I’m focused on what we have here and battling for whatever we can.

“I’m not thinking about how the year will end. As of today, it wouldn’t be wise for me to say what I’m going to do because I don’t know.”

Lionel Messi Dreams Of Playing In A Different League

Lionel Messi Dreams Of Playing In A Different League

Lionel Messi’s desire to leave Barcelona is pretty transparent at this point and the Argentine isn’t even hiding it.

Cristiano Ronaldo had challenged him to get out of his comfort zone in Barca and try a different league.

At the time, Messi stated that he did not need to prove to anybody about his capabilities overseas. Now, it seems like his mind has changed. A summer of heavy friction between him and Barca resulted in Messi losing faith in the club.

The Argentine is planning his future overseas and his words are clear evidence of it. When speaking to La Sexta, he said, “I want to wait until the season is over. I’m just thinking about ending the season well, winning trophies, not getting involved in anything else. The elections have to happen, and then we will see.

“Hopefully, we can end the year well, win a trophy or two, and then in June we will see. I always said that I would like to experience life in the United States and play in the league there.

“Maybe it will happen, it doesn’t have to be right away. Today I am just focused on these next six months. When I finish as a player I want to come back and live in Barcelona, to have some role at the club.”

Lionel Messi Admits He Wanted Out Of Barcelona

Lionel Messi Admits He Wanted Out Of Barcelona

Lionel Messi admits he wanted to leave Barcelona in the summer.

After a month-long dispute with the club’s hierarchy, the Argentine settled on staying and seeing out his contract.

He feels like the club’s current position will be difficult to get out of both on and off the pitch.

“I want to fight for everything that’s ahead of us,” Messi said in an interview with La Sexta. “The club are going through a difficult time.

“Everything that surrounds the club is becoming difficult. The club are in a really bad situation, it’s really bad and it’s hard to get back to where we were.”

The unsettling air around Camp Nou has risen from Messi’s desire to leave. It was one that took everyone by surprise especially since he has been with the Blaugrana forever.

“I told the president I wanted to leave a lot of times,” Messi explained. “The burofax was a way of saying it officially, and to mean it. I thought that I had completed a cycle and needed a change. For my own head, I needed to get out of all of this.

“I knew it was a year of transition with young players. I wanted to fight for the Champions League and for LaLiga Santander. I wanted to leave and I wanted to do it the right way.

“The president started filtering things to make me look like a bad guy from a film. It was difficult to leave the club of my life, I don’t think there’s a better city than this and my family didn’t want to move.”

Luis Suarez’s departure from Camp Nou was another stone that knocked Messi’s faith in the club. The forward was forced out and allowed to join title rivals, Atletico Madrid for next to nothing.

“I had thought about it before Luis Suarez, but that was crazy,” the captain explained. “He went for free to a team that is fighting for the same things as us.”

Messi is free to discuss terms with new clubs from January 1st. However, he stated that he is not thinking about the next season right now.

“Nothing will be clear in my head until the end of the season,” Messi said. “I’ll wait until the season is over. I’m focusing on winning titles and not other things.”

Lionel Messi has hailed former Barca boss Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique as the best managers.

He admits that Guardiola has been one of the best managers he has played under and the Barcelona star regards himself quite lucky to have got the chance.

“Pep has something special, he makes you see things in a [different] way,” the six-time Ballon d’Or winner said .

“How he prepared the matches, defensively, how to attack, he told you exactly where the game was, how you had to attack to win.

“I was lucky that I had a lot of time with Guardiola and Luis Enrique, the two best. Having them [for so long] made me grow a lot in football and in the tactical wisdom that they taught me.”

Messi also showered praised on Barcelona goalkeeper Jan Oblak, calling him the ‘best goalkeeper’.

“It’s nice to face one another,” the 33-year-old told Bud Football . “He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment, and it’s always good to fight against the best ones.

“It’s an extra motivation to be able to, or to try to, score a goal, with what it means and how hard it is, as he proves in every game he plays.

“So, it’s nice to see him outside but also face him in the games. It makes them more exciting.”

Cole Recollects How Chelsea Overcame Messi

Cole Recollects How Chelsea Overcame Messi

Ashley Cole has reminisced about the time Chelsea managed to stop Messi.

However, Cole admits that he wasn’t the only one involved in overcoming the Barcelona legend – it was the entire team.

“It wasn’t just me!” a smiling Cole stresses during an interview with Goal as part of the Nissan UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour.

“That’s been thrown about but the team effort was massive. When it came to stopping players like him, we had a great team understanding and togetherness at Chelsea.

“Our midfield was integral in that regard. It certainly wasn’t just me. I wasn’t blowing my trumpet there by pointing that out!”

Cole also revealed his favourite player.

While selecting Brazil player Cafu for his stamina, the former England international admits, “I thought I had a good engine but when I came up against him, I was left on my knees!

“I even later played against him in a charity game for David Beckham and I don’t know how old he was at the time but he still had the stamina he had at 20 or 25 years of age! He was non-stop, a machine,” he added.

Koeman reserves special praise for Pedri and Ansu Fati

Koeman reserves special praise for Pedri and Ansu Fati

Amidst all the pandemonium at Barcelona, it cannot be ignored that they have indeed found some gems at the club.

The likes of Pedri, Trincao, Rique Puig, De Jong and especially Ansu Fati have looked like real deals. Although Puig has not been given a chacne to excel in the first team, Fati has looked amazing and Koeman calls for a big future for the young lot.

But he says, “Talking about young people is also nice, they deserve it, but they are also people who still have to learn a lot, because they are 17 or 18 years old in the sense of Ansu and Pedri, but what they have done, to be at the highest level in Barça’s first team is something very big.

“In Pedri’s case, at his age, coming from Las Palmas and already playing in games against Madrid or Juventus and with the level he has shown, it’s fantastic. For a club to have young people who have opportunities, we must change the team little by little, we still need to have the greats, but they will not be so for our whole life and we must look for changes with time, with tranquility, and, once again, Pedri has won his minutes in the games in training because he has shown me to be very good and that he can play for a team like Barcelona.”

Koeman – Messi and I have plans for Barcelona

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has expressed his confidence in Messi being on board to help the club.

“At a club like Barca you have to win things. I think our ultimate purpose is to win games and trophies. You get no prizes for finishing fourth, you need to be first,” Koeman said.

“That’s the mentality that this team must have, we can’t settle for anything less. We know that this is a season with a lot of changes, the club are in a difficult financial situation, with issues regarding the players’ salaries.

“This is a very delicate situation for football clubs because of COVID. But Barcelona are still a team that need to win, with the awareness that changes need to be made, but still aspiring to the highest level and making the biggest demands.”

“He trains hard every day. He’s very engaged,” Koeman told Barcelona’s official website on Leo Messi.

Speaking about that worrying time where he had his own heart attack (turned out to be a mild stroke thankfully), he said: “It does make you think about things differently. Perhaps managing Barca became a case of ‘now or never’.”
